Carried out spatial statistical modelling using Arcview GIS
to generate a habitat potential model. This included collation
of existing siting information for the species and generation
of Generalised Linear Models (GLM) and Generalised additive
models (GAM) to produce a refined dataset and high quality maps
of potential species distribution.
Arcview GIS and C-plan software were used to identify the irreplaceability
of individual planning units across the region. A number of
conservation scenarios were identified that formed the basis
for the preparation of a comprehensive biodiversity strategy.
Included the analysis of current systems and recommendations
for implementation of efficient spatial information management
frameworks across the Authority. This included consultation
with key personnel and development of effective data management
structures.
Undertook statistical fauna habitat modelling for NPWS for two
CRA areas. Used a combination of statistical Generalised Linear
and Generalised Additive Models and expert models produced within
the Arcview GIS system. Produced GIS maps of National Estate
values including centres of endemism, and refugia. Integrated
outputs from NPWS conservation assessments and State Forests
FRAMES information into C-plan.
Carried out vegetation survey to assist in the analysis of conservation
significance and recovery potential. Further analysis was carried
out in Arcview to determine vegetation community condition and
conservation value in order to assess the ecological constraints
of vegetation communities.
Carried out a systematic vegetation survey of the Pambalong
Swamp for NPWS. Produced detailed maps and profiles for each
of the communities defined, as well as a local threat analysis
for the native species of the area. This information will be
used in the preparation of a detailed Plan of Management of
the Pambalong Swamp Nature Reserve.
Native vegetation
was mapped and analysed across Eden RFA using LANDSAT TM satellite
imagery and image processing techniques, to produce vegetation
maps.
Undertook a systematic vegetation survey of Wingecarribee Shire
Council, identifing the type and location of vegetation species
and communities and interpreted this information into a series
of maps designed to help planners and landholders manage land
for optimal biodiversity.
Undertook a conservation assessment for all SCA lands within
the Sydney Catchment Special Areas. Included detailed modelling
of vegetation communities, fauna habitat, identifying threatened
species known or predicted to occur, determining conservation
targets and priorities. Provided recommendations for the protection
and management of conservation values
All archaeological survey reports undertaken within the Upper
Hunter area and held by the NPWS were reviewed to identify the
location and type of existing survey effort. This information
was collated within the Arcview GIS system to assist in future
assessment projects.
Provided GIS support to NPWS for the identification of culturally
valued plants in the form of data procurement and collation.
Production of high quality maps of plant locations over the
Arakwal National Park and the Tyagarah and Broken Head Nature
Reserves.
Temporal trends in European settlement within the Manning Valley
were mapped within the Arcview GIS system. This information
was analysed in relation to land classes indicative of Aboriginal
wild resource use patterns to determine the potential impacts
of European settlement on different wild resources. Spatial
trends were identified and maps prepared.
Collated information on the location of Aboriginal Archaeological
sites within the Illawarra Region. Archaeological sites were
analysed in relation to environmental and landuse information
within the GIS system to identify trends and provide contextual
information for review of protection and management practices.
Prepared a scoping document to review of available options and
identify appropriate strategies and directions for web map serving
within Waterways
