Sydney Metropolitan Catchment Management Authority

Ecological Assessment and Mapping

Eco Logical Australia was engaged by Sydney Metropolitan CMA to undertake assessment of regionally Significant Riparian Corridors (RSRC) across the Sydney Metropolitan catchment.

Existing datasets were used and adapted to assess significance of riparian corridors (50 m buffer of streams and foreshore areas). In addition an assessment of high conservation value vegetation within 150 m of these corridors was determined to show relevant context.

Maps of each of the eight operational areas in the SMCMA catchment were produced which illustrate distribution of RSRC priority classes.

A report was prepared to provide recommendations for management of each priority class as well as the planning application of the assessment.

Two pilot sites were chosen to demonstrate the application of the riparian corridor assessment to 1) a greenfield site and 2) a redevelopment site.
