WA Department of Environment and Conservation
Gnangara Sustainability Strategy
Eco Logical Australia was engaged by the WA Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) to analyse the landscape conservation values at Gnangara.
In order to assist with DEC’s response to future changes in land use in the Gnangara region, a GIS analysis of the landscape to identify and prioritise conservation value and model connectivity across the landscape was prepared.
Our GIS team produced a series of iterative maps utilising GIS data and expert input from our own ecologists and DEC staff to develop a landscape prioritisation map for the region.
This was combined with landscape connectivity modelling, that uses least cost path analysis to predict preferred pathways for connectivity between vegetation patches. The end product provides a decision support tool for conservation planners to use when planning for the broader landscape conservation network in the region.
