Port Stephens Wetland Mapping and Management

Eco Logical Australia was engaged by Port Stephens Council and the Department of Infrastructure Planning and Natural Resources to carry out a pilot project to map wetlands over the Council area and develop a classification and prioritisation tool for their management.

Key elements of the project included:

  • Developed a standardised wetland classification and mapping system for Council
  • Facilitated a consultative, multi-disciplinary process to develop wetland management priorities across the Local Government Area
  • Provided Council with a standardised set of attributes for ongoing field data collection aimed at wetland prioritisation and management
  • Developed a desktop wetland prioritisation management tool for Council natural resource managers
