ELA syd cycle challenge portrait-Mobile

Last month, ELA’s Sydney office joined 4,465 cyclists around Sydney to compete in the Sydney Rides Business Challenge. After some serious pedal power, we came home with the goods, winning first place in our category of 20-49 employees for the second year ‘cycling’.

With 96% of the Sydney office participating, our bike rack remained full for the month, but the title didn’t come easy. There were mega-stacks, rumbles with exercise bikes, and an incident with training wheels that is best forgotten. Once again, Alastair rode laps of the office for 10 minutes to log one of his rides, much to the bemusement of his colleagues.

Luckily the bumps and bruises had healed by the time Lord Mayor Clover Moore presented us with the trophy at Sydney’s Town Hall last week and our prize of chocolate cakes and in-office massages certainly helped sweeten the deal. The ELA team loved being part of this great initiative, adding both a boost to our health, and the environment. Across the whole event, The City of Sydney outperformed London, Auckland and Atlanta by more than 500 riders. This mammoth achievement was made possible by a total of 359 Sydney businesses who pedalled a whopping 618,604 kilometres over four weeks.

We loved feeling the wind in our hair during our morning commute and we’re already stretching our calves for next year. The pressure is on to retain the crown.
