Impact of the Tillegra Dam on the Hunter Estuary Ramsar Wetlands

Hunter Water

We completed an assessment of the likely impacts of the proposed Tillegra Dam on the Hunter Estuary Ramsar wetlands.

In combination with the Hunter Water Corporation, BMT WBM and Professor Max Finlayson of Charles Sturt University, we documented the ecological character of the Ramsar wetlands and provided advice on the likely changes to the wetlands caused by alteration to the flow regime from the proposed Tillegra Dam.

Based on modeled data provided by BMT WBM, significant impacts from the proposed dam on the Ramsar wetlands were determined to be unlikely, principally because the wetlands are a marine-dominated system and because of the existing flow regulation of the Williams River upstream at Seaham Weir.
